A Few Facts About Paia

Paia is a relatively small, generally rural community found on the North Shore of Maui. Paia has a population of approximately two thousand five hundred residents, and is technically considered a census-designated place of the Aloha State. Paia is situated in what is commonly known as “Upcountry” Maui, a highly scenic and enjoyable portion of the Valley Island. Paia’s history is heavily centered on the sugar industry, and the community began as a sugar plantation town. Since the plantations closed, Paia has evolved into a pleasant, beachfront town with plenty of restaurants and local shops.

Paia offers stores and boutiques for nearly every taste, including clothing, jewelry, antiques, and art. There are also restaurants that offer everything from Indian food to Pacific Rim cooking, and Mexican cuisine to Mediterranean fare, as well as vegetarian, fast food, and continental. There are a number of historic churches in the area, as well as beautiful Baldwin Beach Park. Paia enjoys fantastic weather throughout the year, just like the rest of the Aloha State; offering warm temperatures, pleasant breezes, and occasional showers. Popular recreational activities in Paia include fishing, surfing, swimming, and, most notably, windsurfing.
