A Few Facts About East Maui
East Maui encompasses a number of small towns, somewhat larger communities, and rural spots on the Valley Island. East Maui is known, along with the rest of the Aloha State, for its phenomenal weather throughout the entire year, characterized by pleasant tropical showers, gentle trade winds and breezes, and warm temperatures. The most important and most heavily populated community in East Maui is Hana, which prides itself on remaining the “last undeveloped tropical paradise on Maui.” The so-called Hana Highway, which stretches along the coast of East Maui, offers fantastic views of the ocean and the mountains.
East Maui boasts several outstanding beaches, including Hamoa Beach and Koki Beach, which are great places to enjoy swimming, surfing, sightseeing, and snorkeling. Two other beaches, Kaihalulu Beach and Waianapanapa State Park, are known for their unique sand – composed of red cinder and black sand, respectively. Cultural sites in East Maui include the Fagan Memorial Cross, the Hasegawa General Store, Haleakala National Park, and Kahanu Garden. This area provides a pleasant balance between the convenience of the major cities, which are just a car ride away, with the pleasant tranquility of an unspoiled island paradise.
