A little About Kaneohe

Kaneohe is a medium sized, largely residential community found in Windward Oahu. Kaneohe has a population of approximately thirty four thousand nine hundred residents and is a census designated place of the state of Hawaii. Kaneohe literally means “bamboo man”, and was once known for its large farms, although now only bananas are grown in any appreciable quantity. Kaneohe is adjacent to the community of Kailua, and is only about thirty or forty minutes away from downtown Honolulu by way of the Pali, the Likelike, or the H-3.

Kaneohe is home to three excellent golf courses, which are the Pali Golf Coruse, the Ko’olau Golf Club, and Bayview Golf Course. Kaneohe boasts the Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens, the Hawaii National Veterans Cemetery, Marine Corps Base Hawaii, and Coconut Island. Schools in Kaneohe include Ahuimanu, Heeia, Kahaluu, Kaneohe, Kapunahala, Benjamin Parker, Puohala, and Waiahole Elementary Schools, King Intermediate School, Hakipuu Learning Center, Koolau Baptist Academy, St. Ann’s, St Mark Lutheran School, Windward Nazarene Academy, James P Castle High School, Hawaii Pacific University, and Windward Community College.
