Hanapepe, which literally means “crushed bay”, is a relatively small community found in the southern portion of the Garden Island. Hanapepe has a population of approximately two thousand two hundred residents, and is technically considered a census designated place. Hanapepe is home to the famous swinging bridge, is located along Highway 50, and was the filming site of “The Thorn Birds”.
