A little about Kealakekua

Kealakekua is a scenic vacation destination and relatively small residential community found on the western coast of the island of Hawaii. Kealakekua has a population of approximately one thousand six hundred residents, and is located within less than a five minute drive of the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Kealakekua is very close to the aptly named Kealakekua Bay, which was the site of explorer Captain James Cook’s death, and is situated about fifteen minutes or twelve miles away from the community of Kailua-Kona.

Kealakekua was made famous by an early twentieth century song entitled “My Little Grass Shack in Kealakekua”, which was originally composed by Bill Cogswell, Johnny Noble, and Tommy Harrison. Kealakekua Bay is a Marine Life Conservation District, and its waters are excellent destinations for diving, swimming, kayaking, and snorkeling. Kealakekua is home to one of the most beautiful coral reefs in the state, and is still within a short drive of the numerous recreational and historic destinations of Kailua-Kona.
