A Few Facts About Laie
Laie is a charming beachside community found on the island of Oahu. Laie is home to the fifth oldest Mormon Temple in the world, and has a population of about four thousand six hundred residents. Laie was originally a sanctuary for fugitives in ancient Hawaii, while the name Laie is derived from two words referring to a “leaf” and the “le’ie vine.” Laie is a pleasant place to live, but is also extremely tourist friendly, with the world famous Polynesian Cultural Center being located less than a mile away from Laie.
Laie is extremely convenient to the Kahuku golf course, the Turtle Bay golf course, and Brigham Young University Hawaii. Laie Bay is great for surfing, fishing, swimming, boating, and windsurfing, while the Laie Shopping Center boasts a movie theater, restaurants, and a grocery store. Popular places to eat in and around Laie include Kahuku Sweet Corn stands, shrimp shacks and trucks, and the Hukilau Café. Laie is about an hour’s drive away from downtown Honolulu, and only about half an hour distant from Kailua/Kaneohe.
