A little about Koloa
Koloa is a relatively small census designated place found on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. Koloa has a population of approximately one thousand nine hundred residents, and interestingly enough has no known translation into modern English. Slack key guitarist Ray Kane was born in Koloa, and the town has considerable historic significance because the first sugar plantation in Hawaii, the Old Sugar Mill of Koloa, is found here. Although the sugar industry has since shut down, Koloa still retains much of the look and feel of an old plantation community. Many of the houses are built in the plantation style, and the town prides itself on its heritage.
Popular recreational activities in and around Koloa include fishing, snorkeling, hiking, sailing, scuba diving, boating, and swimming. Kiahuna Golf Club and Poipu Bay Golf Club are found near Koloa, as are Poipu Beach and the tunnel of trees. Koloa is home to the Koloa Plantation Days annual celebration and a number of restaurants, galleries, and a history center. Nearby attractions include the Atlantis Gallery, Nahumaalo Point, and Waita Reservoir. Koloa also boasts a convenient location and pleasantly warm and sunny weather throughout the year.
